If you grew up in North St. Louis County near Florissant, as a teen you may have driven down "Bubblehead Road". My fiancee told me of this story from his youth.
When my fiancee and his friends had nothing to do or some relative or friend not familiar with "Bubblehead Road" would be around, they'd take a ride.
From what my fiancee told me, there was a dark, windy road up near the Missouri River that at its end had a gate where you were forced to turn around. The story goes that the road was haunted and the "bubbleheads" lived in the wooded area along the road. The "bubbleheads" would jump onto the cars and try to get the unsuspecting victims.
Last year, when I moved to St. Louis. My fiancee took me down "bubblehead" road (aka Carrico Road). Needless to say, there were no "bubbleheads", but I did have kind of an eerie feeling about the road.
Unfortunately, my fiancee did not know the history or source for this tale. But it does provide a bit of humorous local folklore.

ReplyDeleteMy friends ex-boyfriend and a couple of his friends rode down the sreet two or three years ago(before they put up the gate) and said when they pulled up to the front of the house people started flying out of the trees and banging at the windows with aluminum bats and yelling. And eventually the cops came. And whats creepy is he said they were midget sized and had huge heads.....blagh

ReplyDeleteThere is nothing true about the bubble head story. I have partied at the house just beyond the gates. It was built by my friends grandparents who are not inbreed mutated bubbleheads. It is true that people are chased off the street but its by a old man in a truck sick of people wondering around and causing trouble looking for these so called bubbleheads. and be warned my friends little brother will shoot at you will a bb gun and set up spike strips in the road late at night for you people looking for the bubbleheads

The Bubbleheads bull is the one of the most stupid stories, and any logical person should stop believing this kind of shit after the age of 10...maybe even sooner than that. It's not "Bubbleheads" "chasing" people out of there, it's the people who live back there that are sick and tired of you stupid ass kids riding around back and forth in front of their houses. ReplyDeleteMe and my friend drove down that road LAST NIGHT and we approacher the gate with caution and its true what you say about the signs being all over the road. If its no such thing as bubble heads then why the gate or the signs??? It was dark and the lights made the fog thick we pulled up on the sign closer to get a better look and it said big as day NO Trespassing!!! Then out of nowhere a old blue car appear from behind the sign and flashed the lights 3 times at us and then press there feet on the gas and followed us... they turned there lights off and got closer to the bumper and then stated flashing there lights again. WE WHERE SO SCARED!!!! They followed us all the way to the end of the road

ReplyDeletethe estate at the end of the road is where a 'village' if you will of Mormons have lived for centuries. being a very seclusive group of people; over generations deformities began to develop from incestuous breeding. these deformities have left them ashamed, and they became even more seclusive. when teenagers get bored, and drive down this road in Jamestown, because of myths and exaggerated stories they will sometimes get defensive, and attempt to ward off these unwelcome visitors. it's these outbursts that have given them a bad reputation, only fueling the negative connotations of the word 'bubblehead road'. they're not mutants. just a tight knit clan of people. not worth the trip.

ReplyDeletewe tried going down there a couple nights ago and I was advised to turn my headlights off but mine are automatic after I turn em off so there was no way of me getting them not to shine... so we decided to park by the gate and walk down the little wooded road.. and right as i turn my car off and i open my door a man from the house right behind the gate shined a REALLY bright light at our car from his house and told us to "get the hell out of here" and my car's wheels got stuck in the mud and the light was getting a little closer so we eventually got moving and drove out of there but he shined tht light on us until we were completely out of sight... and its true that there are a SHITLOAD of signs saying cops patrol it and its private property and under video surveillance... pretty sketchy back there... i wanna try again
ReplyDeletei was there last night.. we went up to this house and there was a little dog house next to it and once we got about ten feet away from the hose the sensor light went on and it had a voice recording and it said " YOU ARE TRESSPASSING!" it really freaked us out.. still havent seen any bubbleheads but have heard stories from my friends parents,, i think there is someone there..
ReplyDeletewhen i lived in hazelwood, i went down bubblehead road once as a teenager, on halloween. we had about 7 of us in the car, and the whole way down the road the driver kept telling us stories of how the bubbleheads would throw fireworks at trespassers and sound off blowhorns and all kinds of weird stuff. when we got to the house, we honked the horn and the driver started shouting out, "hey, you stupid bubbleheads! fuck you!" nothing happened for about 5 mins, so we left. on our way back down the road, a pickup appeared behind us with its brights on, and it came up fast. it was right on our ass the whole stretch leading back to the main road... we were probably goin about 45 on that creepy one-lane road. when we finally reached the main road, it kept following us into we finally had to stop at a redlight. the truck pulled up next to us... and it was a bunch of college age lesbians. they yelled,"happy halloween!" and laughed at us as they drove off. so, yeah... the bubbleheads dont exist, but if u experience something down there, its bc there are bored students at umsl lookin to mess with stupid teenagers.

We sat for a few nothing, then left came back agian nothing then the 3rd time we had saw a car at the house just over the bridge then it was gone, just as we were about to leave, the car was comming down the road and it tried to pin us in....
ReplyDeleteI went to bubblehead rode, there used to be an insane asylim in the 1800's that was placed there. many insane people live in the outskirts of the private road thats cut off from others coming in. There are folks who live there called the bubbleheads who own the private place, it is true there are insane people who live in there, but they are not aloud to get out and no one is really supposed to go in unless you want to be shot by someone. The bubbleheads are nice people though, they are people. Not monsters or anything else. But be warned dont go in because there ARE insane people living in the private outskirt.

It's a good point that there's no evidence, but you also got to think if there's goverment signs maybe the goverment moniters the pictures and takes them off. So on our way we saw this 20 ppl again and they started throwing rocks until we speeded and went home, it was my biggest adventure ever! Need to do it!
